Madonna apologized Saturday for using a racial slur on Instagram to refer to her white son, seeking forgiveness a day after calling those who criticized her language "haters."
On Friday night, the singer posted a picture of her 13-year-old son, Rocco, boxing and included the comment showbiz news, "No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out!" She then added a variation of the N-word.
She quickly deleted the comment when outraged Instagram users berated her for the use of the word, and was initially defiant. But in a statement to The Associated Press on Saturday, a contrite Madonna said: "Forgive me."
"I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur. I am not a racist. There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention," she said. "It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression."
Besides Rocco, she has three other children, including Lourdes, David and Mercy. Mercy and David are black showbiz news, adopted from the African nation of Malawi.
This is the second time this year that Madonna has offended people on Instagram. Earlier this month, she posted a photo of Rocco and his two young friends holding up bottles of liquor; she defended the post as a joke.
"No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don't start the year off with judgement!" she responded on Instagram.

Depp and Paradis, a French actress and singer, had been together for 14 years and have two children, Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 11.
Heard is reportedly developing a close relationship with the kids.
“Amber has really taken well to the kids and really enjoys spending time with them,” revealed the source. “And she’s even taken Lily shopping on her own for some bonding time.”
Heard, 27, has previously stated that she’s bisexual and was in a four-year relationship with photographer Rasya van Ree showbiz news.

While speaking to a blogger Friday at ABC’s party during the twice-annual Television Critics Tour, ABC’s first Latino Bachelor expressed concern that a Bachelor with gay men would be “more pervert in a sense. To me that show would be too strong, too hard, to watch on TV.”
“It’s hard. It’s a very thin line,” said Galavais. “Obviously people have their husband and wife and have kids. That’s how we are brought up. It’s hard for me to understand that.
“It is confusing in a sense,” he continued. “They want to be parents. So it is a scale… Where do you put it on the scale? Where is the thin line to cross or not? You have to respect everybody’s desires and way of living. But it would be too hard for TV.”
Galavais’ comments come in the wake of the Duck Dynasty firestorm that put A&E — and star Phil Robertson — in the hot seat. Robertson set off a cultural firestorm by talking about the “sin” of homosexuality in an interview with GQ. The network suspended the patriarch from the popular reality show but then lifted it before the show returned this month — albeit to lower ratings than usual. The season 5 premiere had 8.5 million viewers — stellar, sure, but down 28 percent from its record-setting fourth season debut in August (11.8 million).
The Bachelor saw its best premiere ratings in three years earlier this month. The two-hour premiere starring Galavais was up 17 percent from last January. The premiere scored 8.4 million viewers and a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49.

LAMY, N.M. — Trouble is brewing between the masked gunfighter (Armie Hammer) and his newfound Comanche traveling companion, Tonto (Johnny Depp), late at night on the New Mexico set of The Lone Ranger.
In the scene, the famed lawman is on a wooden porch, fuming behind his leather mask over the smoking carnage of an apparent Indian attack.
The fuming turns to full-on rage as Tonto removes a ring from the finger of a body and places a white feather on the corpse's chest. The Lone Ranger sprints down the porch steps and grabs Tonto, only to have the Comanche flip him onto his back into the dirt in one seamless motion.
Despite the resounding thud from Hammer, director Gore Verbinski calls for repeated takes of the scene.
It's a key moment in the reboot — which has the Pirates of the Caribbean crew, Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, at the helm — since it encapsulates the spirit of Hammer and Depp's new adventure.

The actor also names his siblings and relatives, including nieces, godchildren and close friends, and includes $200,000 gifts to his personal assistant and secretary.
An estimated 2,000 friends, fans and relatives filled the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan on June 27 to bid a sad farewell to the New Jersey born actor, who died of a heart attack three weeks ago at age 51.

Miley Cyrus couldn't wait any longer to rock out to her new music video for "We Can't Stop."
The 20-year-old entertainer told her Twitter followers Wednesday morning that she was brimming with anticipation for the clip's release, and shortly thereafter she got her wish:
Cyrus has asked her followers to repeatedly watch the "We Can't Stop" clip in order to break a record on Vevo -- a goal that may just come to fruition. Less than two hours after it was posted on YouTube, the video has so far received 300,000-plus views (and counting) and more than 24,000 likes.

"We Can't Stop" marks a far departure from Cyrus' earlier music videos. The new surreal clip is more reminiscent of Fiona Apple's provocative "Criminal" video than anything the former Disney Channel star ever did in the past.
Young models are seen at an empty Los Angeles home, with a human head sculpted out of french fries and dancers wearing life-sized teddy bear backpacks also present.
Cyrus sports gold caps on her teeth at one point and she also dances the twerk. The letters "t-w-e-r-k" are seen spelled out in alphabet soup letters in one shot.
